For the past couple of years the reception at the Terrace on
the Park was something to look forward to.
To organize an event like this is not an easy task, over 365
people showed up for the festivities to meet the dignitaries and
the Evzones that come from Greece every year for the Greek
Independence Day Parade. This year like in the past there
were glitches, people that had tables but no seats, people that
paid and had no tables and other little semi contrivances that
happen when Greek get together.
As members of the cultural committee we are responsible for
the Ladies of the Miss Greek Independence Pageant, this is
what we promised to the parents that gave permeation to their
daughters to enter the event, and as in the past we try to do
the best job that we can to make sure that the contestants are
well taken care of and obey the rules that are set by the
Federation. Last night the people that were responsible for the
event were a little careless, we brought the Girls as ordered on
time and with a lot of enthusiasm, in the past we all had a great
time, we ate, drank, and dance the night way with their parents
and our spouses. This year the powers in charge thought that
the members of the cultural committee was having too much fun
so they dint’s have a table for us like in the past. All the
members that were there paid for the privilege to be in this
event, we dint’s ask to be there for free, like 175 other people
that night, which by the way had tables, chairs and food.
Eventually we were scattered all over the big hall in deferent
tables and out of sight of our responsibilities. This year with the
exception of a couple of songs from the Greek air Force band
in the beginning of the event and a very talented dance
exhibition from the Cretans we had no music or dance, to the
much disappointment of all those present.
Except for the people that liked 5 hour speeches.
